INTERVIEW WITH...
WES HOLVERSON!
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Wes Holverson has had his ups and downs in the past year. He was on a winning streak for the ages, but when the time came for him to take his place among the champions, he failed to get the job done. But, after re-finding himself and re-thinking his strategy, Holverson defeated arguably the best lightweight fighter in IMMAF history... Hidehiko Fujita. And it has been speculated that Holverson will be receiving another title shot in the near future. But, for today, Wes sits down with us for the third time to speak about these recent happenings and events. Wes, welcome, once again.
WES HOLVERSON: Thanks, I'm glad to be back here. It has kinda grown on me.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Me or the magazine?
WES HOLVERSON: The interviews (laughs).
IMMAF MAGAZINE: (laughs) Good. Alright, so tell me... how has the past year been since you lost to Paul Richardson?
WES HOLVERSON: It's been fine. Of course all I can think about is that match. But as they say... a true warrior doesn't remember who he's defeated, only who he hasn't.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: That's very insightful. So have you found out why you couldn't defeat Richardson?
WES HOLVERSON: It's probably a combination of a lot of things. I was over-confident leading into that bout, I was much more inexperienced, and I allowed him to get me mad. And when you lose your head and start letting your emotions take over, your bound for disaster.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Would you call your loss to Richardson a clear defeat, seeing as you lost by referee stoppage?
WES HOLVERSON: Of yeah, I lost fair and square. If the ref hadn't stopped the fight, I might not be here now. Paulie is a beast.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: So if you lost fair and sqaure to Richardson, but fans beleive Hidkehiko Fujita is the best, why could you be Fujita and not Paul?
WES HOLVERSON: The word "best" is a word of opinion. Richardson was better than me that night and I was better than Hidehiko that night.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: So have you been getting into anything outside of MMA?
WES HOLVERSON: Actually, I just opened a clothing line in partnership with JTA Clothing called "Wicked One Wear". It's modeled after places like Affliction and Tapout, but I've thrown my own bit of style in there as well.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Where can you purchase this gear?
WES HOLVERSON: Just Google it and you'll find it.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Sounds awesome! So you've finally answered the call fo Nate Cruz and ended his "bickering", shall we say. What was your take on that situation?
WES HOLVERSON: He's just a dude that wanted revenge for something that happened years ago on TIF, but he couldn't get it. Same story, different guy.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: So when will your next title shot be?
WES HOLVERSON: The word is that I'm next in line, so pretty soon. After the unification, a lot of featherweight guys are in the division now, so I'm lucky I'll get the first shot.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: What is your take on that division-cross between the feathweight and lightweight?
WES HOLVERSON: I look at it as a challege. New blood equals new fights.
IMMAF MAGAZINE: Well Wes, good luck in your future and I hope to see you back here again soon.
WES HOLVERSON: Thanks.
