Yeah, I'll create a hoax and pass the vid off as a game that's in development.

You still up for this?
I always thought it would be pretty cool if there was a hand-to-hand combat based MMORPG that used a system like in WWE: No Mercy. One difference I would want is the ability to toggle out of the target system, so players could fight in expansive, diverse maps. Sort of like an antithesis to a shooter.

I have sort of lost interest in the idea especially after my controller broke. WWF No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 are cool games though.
See I've had the idea of an MMORPG based around Pitfighting/MMA where you have a basic class system that evolves into all the different styles.

How about we create the classes?
Boxing - An offensive/defensive punching style that focuses on attacking and protecting the head and body.
Strengths-
Combination Punching: Strings together numerous punches to multiply damage done to opponent.
Head Movement: Ducks and weaves to avoid damage.
Footwork: Strategically moves in and out of range of opponent. Can be used to enhance both offense and defense.
Judo - A countering/defensive grappling style that focuses on damaging opponents with high-impact throws and controlling/submitting them on the floor.
Strengths-
Throwing: Launches opponent to floor with a damaging throw or sweep.
Armlocking: Attacks joints in opponent's arm, potentially causing a submission or break.
Turtle: Adopts defensive posture on floor which limits opponent's submission game.
Kickboxing - A 60/40 offensive/defensive punching/kicking style that can attack from both a long and moderate range. Focuses on attacking the head and body.
Strengths-
Punching: Strikes head and body with fists.
Long-Range Kicking: Kicks to the head and body from far away. Can knock out opponent or limit his offense by keeping him at a distance.
Cover Up: Minimizes damage to either head or body by absorbing strikes with arms. Can be used wear out opponent.
Kung-Fu - An evasive unorthodox style that focuses on reducing opponent's defense before attacking.
Strengths-
Flowery Striking: Attempts to confuse opponent enough with unorthodox strikes enough to weaken his guard and increase damage.
Deflection: Parries opponent's strikes away to leave his guard open for a counterattack.
Foot Sweeping: Sweeps opponent to the ground, leaving them vulnerable to strikes and causing them to expend energy in order to stand.
Muay Thai - An offensive striking style that can attack from a moderate to close range. Focuses on utilizing all the points of the four limbs to attack.
Strengths-
Thai Clinch: Strikes opponents with elbows and knees from the clinch. Elbows have a high propensity to cut opponent.
Low-Kicking: Attacks opponent's legs with roundhouse kicks. Low kicks have less of a chance of being caught than high kicks, and can incapacitate opponent over time.
Combination Striking: Strings together numerous strikes to multiply damage done to opponent.
PitFighting - A highly offensive unorthodox style that targets the head for damage above all else.
Strengths-
Power Striking: Puts every ounce of power into each blow to increase the chance of causing a knockout with one punch.
Roughhouse Tactics: Frustrate opponent with dirty techniques that have a good chance to maim but not finish him off.
Slamming: Drops opponent to ground with a high propensity to damage.
Shootfighting - An all-rounder style that doesn't stand out in one area, but can be used to play against opponent's weaknesses.
Strengths-
Leglocking: Attacks joints in opponent's legs, potentially causing a submission or break.
Shoot-Style Striking: Attacks opponent with palm strikes, low kicks, and body punches.
Leg Takedowns: Shoots in for opponent's legs, shifting the fight to a ground battle.
Submission Grappling - A grappling style that focuses predominantly on finishing opponent off on the ground with submission holds.
Strengths-
Choking: Cuts off the blood flow to his opponent's brain, potentially causing submission or unconsciousness.
Joint-Locking: Attacks joints in opponent's limbs or neck, potentially causing a submission or break.
Guard: Adopts a neutral position from the bottom which increase both offensive and defensive capabilities.
Taekwondo - An offensive kicking style that focuses on attacking the head and body. Fights predominantly from a very long range.
Strengths-
Graceful Kicking: Attacks opponent with deceptive kicks that can cause him to lower his guard.
Combination Kicking: Strings together numerous kicks to multiply damage done to opponent.
Aerial Kicking: Launches a kick from far away that's highly damaging but easily avoidable when opponent is not in a weakened state.
Wrestling - An offensive grappling style that focuses on controlling and dominating while wearing the opponent down.
Strengths-
Takedowns: Shifts fight from standing to ground battle. Can be high-impact and damaging, or low-impact and quick.
Ground-and-Pound: Minimizes damage to self-by adopting a dominant position while wearing opponent down with strikes.
Dirty Boxing: Controls opponent in clinch and wears him down with strikes

Just to elaborate on aggression styles:
Offensive - Style focuses on doing maximum damage to the opponent
Defensive - Style focuses on protecting fighter from damage
Counterattacking - Style focuses on using opponent's offense or momentum against them to inflict damage
Evasive - Style that focues on having fighter adopt a defensive posture while initiating offensive attacks
And here are the attacking styles:
Punching - Attacks with punches
Kicking - Attacks with kicks
Grappling - Attacks by seizing
All-Rounder - Attacks with combination of punches, kicks, and grapples
Unorthodox - Attacks with various combinations of punches, kicks, grapples and/or unique techniques
Now to define the stats a fighter can have:
Strength Affects the damage a fighter can deal with an attack
Critical Hit Affects the chance a fighter will land a critical hit (Flash knockdown or flash submission)
Speed Affects a fighter's speed at attacking
Dexterity Affects a fighter's movement speed (Running, jumping, climbing, etc)
Toughness Affects a fighter's ability to take punishment without becoming incapacitated (Such as from a knockout or injury to body, arms, or legs)
Endurance Affects how quickly a fighter's spirit meter will rise or fall from taking or giving damage (Repeatedly spamming attacks and missing will expend endurance)
Height Affects the fighter's (dis)advantage in reach. Taller fighters can attack from farther away. Also affects weight
Build Affects weight of fighter. Heavier fighters have higher basal strength, while lighter fighters have higher basal agility
